Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Contest Announced

Can You Swing with the Big and the Bad?

Here's How to Swing it.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy wants to hear how your jazz band can wail on "Mambo Swing." If you think you can hang, send us a CD of your performance and you could win a memorable event for your jazz band, your school and your community!

Competition Rules

Get your jazz band together and practice Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's "Mambo Swing" and a medium or up-tempo chart (no ballads) of your choice showcasing your band and soloists. Record it on a compact disc (no DAT or cassette tapes) and submit with the form below. Entries must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2007.

"Mambo Swing" (Hal Leonard Publishing No. 7010758) is an arrangement from the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy CD, "Americana Deluxe". Charts can be purchased from your local Conn-Selmer dealer. Contest judges include Joel Leach, professor at Cal State Northridge and past president of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), and Tom Peterson, Los Angeles recording artist, clinician, composer, arranger and former member of the Tonight Show Band.

Here's What the Winner Gets

One high school band will win an appearance at their school by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on Monday April 23, 2007, for an evening rehearsal and on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, for an all-day clinic. The evening wraps up with a double performance featuring your band and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy performing two songs together live! Winners will be notified Monday, March 19, 2007. Submissions will not be returned.

"This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the students and a high point of my 13-year teaching career."
